Evening you lovely people and welcome to my first blog on the new, improved and frankly brilliant website of ours. I hope you like it as much we do and you’ve enjoyed the blogs that have been posted by the other guys so far. It’s my turn now and I hope this brightens up your Monday night!
I’ve recently returned from a great weekend away in Barcelona seeing the sites that amazing city has to offer and haggling with street sellers for a cheaper umbrella, with batteries recharged and with an appetite wet for more gigs (more of that later), rehearsals and booze (although i realised in Barcelona that Sam+cocktails=drunker than i should be).
Last Saturday, Maz, Al and Kew performed an acoustic set as a three piece at the Squirrel pub’s beer festival near Amersham whilst i slowly got more and more inebriated on our local Rebellion brew and sold some of our very decent EP’s (more of that later too) to some very decent people. Thank you to all that bought that little part of Wutar history and therefore funding the next step towards our giant leap….
The following day the tennants of Wutar Towers MK 2 (the first is just rubble now) took a stroll down to our new local, the mighty fine Plough in West Wycombe for a few pints to celebrate Vally’s 25th. It was a truly splendid afternoon with Vally sampling the wonders of Bulmers first hand – he liked that very much – and Black Sambucca – that one, not so much – before the guitar was broken out and everything began to become a bit of a hazy blur (particularly for the birthday boy) but a wonderful Sunday afternoon all the same. Despite Vally’s head occupying a bin for long periods of the festivities and sounds resembling the devil being heard from the echoing abyss he seemed to very much enjoy himself, as we all did thank you very much!
On Friday just passed we went down to see The Little Villeins play their last gig at one of our favourite haunts, the Water Rats in Kings Cross. After a couple of tequilas i decided it’d be a good move to have a crowd surf and after nearly knocking four people out with my flaiting limbs (sorry!) decided that I’ll very much miss this band, their tunes and their unique energy. TLV – we salute you.
Back to all things Wutar related, Alex Kew has settled in to the fold very well indeed (did you ever really doubt it?!) and we’re having a very good time rehearsing a number of new bits and bobs that if you haven’t heard already you will do very soon. Our next gig is headlining the Camden Barfly on Saturday which we’re all looking forward to very much.
Before i sign off for the night a big thanks to all of you that have bought our EP already and to those who haven’t you can purchase your own slice of Wutar pie from this very website. Please do, you’ll love it as much as i love my puddings. We also have set up a fan page on Facebook so become a fan and reap the benefits of being able to tell your friends, family and work colleagues that you like us more than them. It’s like Top Trumps but with Alexander Valentine.
Anyway, I’m off to retire to my room, under my covers to think about that lemon meringue pie i never got my chops around and wait for the 3rd Little Barrie album to be released.
Sam x
